in Europe, a generation of extrusion lines and induction furnaces has now become quite outdated: they still perform, but they cannot compete with the efficiency levels of newer models. However, making significant investments in new equipment is difficult when the economy is weakening and international politics is unpredictable. So, what can be done to stay competitive? For our editorial team, this was the reason to delve deeper into the topic of retrofitting.

In this issue, you will find my article on IGBT direct converters, which can also be retrofitted into older induction furnaces. Philipp Unterschütz introduced me to several recent retrofit projects and explained the challenges and effects of these measures.
